Jill Black is a social worker, a wife, and a mother of 2 children in Hamilton County Schools. Jill and her husband Matt Black are parents to Levi (7th grade) and Clara (4th grade), who attend the Center for Creative Arts and Battle Academy in District 11. Jill received her BA in Sociology from the University of Mississippi and her MSSW from The University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Jill and her family are active members at First Centenary United Methodist Church, which is where Jill and Matt met years ago.
Jill moved to Hamilton County in 2005 to work for the local chapter of Stand for Children to advocate for improvements to the public education system. From there, Jill worked for the City of Chattanooga in the Dept. of Neighborhood Services and Community Development, then as a PATH trainer teaching foster parents for the State of Tennessee. Most recently, Jill worked as a case manager for the CHOICES program under TennCare.
Her professional experiences as a social worker in our community, as well as parenting 2 children in the public school system, gives Jill a unique perspective on the lived experiences of families and children served by HCS. Her focus will always be centered on the needs of students and supporting educators.
